Un-Finishing Inventory
Process Definition:
The un-finishing inventory option allows users to un-finish if the incorrect Job, quantity, serialized lot, etc. was finished, users have the ability to un-finish the material , provided the material that was produced is still in inventory.
There following method is used to un-finish inventory:
- Via a Job Reporting report Close/Relieve – this method allows each input production/finish transaction that was completed to be completely reversed. This ensures that the inventory and GL postings are correctly reversed. This transaction will place the previously finished inventory back into the on hand bucket, where it can remain until it is ready to be used for the same or another Job as needed.
Process in Deacom:
Un-Finishing Inventory via Job Reporting
- Ensure the user has the security setting, "Production -- unfinish job" set to “Yes”.
- Navigate to Production > Job Reporting.
- Run the Production Detail or Production Summary report using the pre-filter to select the correct Job Number or Parts.
- Select the finish that needs to be reversed and click the "Un-Finish" button.
- The Un-Finish Product form will display, select an Un-Finish Date and Un-Finish Quantity.
- Click Apply to complete the process.
A few notes regarding this process:
- Users have the ability to partially un-finish from the Production Detail or Summary reports. For catch weight items, serialized or not, each lot is displayed with a quantity of 1, so the selected lot is un-finished instead of the entire batch.
- When an un-finish occurs, material is placed in WIP, even if that is not the location from which it originated. This material can then be de-issued to get it out of WIP.
- If a user attempts to un-finish inventory which is no longer in the system, such as when the inventory has been shipped, the system will display a prompt indicating the lot(s) are not longer available and the un-finish cannot take place.
- Users who attempt to un-finish via the Production Summary report will do so to the full finished quantity of the highlighted row(s).
- Lots that are in a WIP status on another job cannot be un-finished.
